Sarah Watts (clarinet)
Laurence Perkins (bassoon)
For intermediate and advanced players(minimum grade 5)
Welcome to Birman - the perfect antidote to winter! This wonderful part of Scotland with its hills and forests looks great at virtually any time of year, and with a fantastic programme of wind ensemble music, this has to be a highlight in the musical calendar!
For large ensemble, there's a real discovery - a fine and little-known Overture by the 18th century Scottish composer Thomas Erskine in a brand new version for wind ensemble - all one-player-to-a-part. Smaller ensemble pieces will include works by Mozart and Gordon Jacob.
Tutored rehearsals will lead to an informal free-admission concert performance on Sunday afternoon. On Saturday evening, many of the players gather in the Taybank live music pub to relax and enjoy good food, drink and some spontaneous music-making if you wish!
Flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn players from grade 5 upwards are welcome on this course. Places are limited, so book now! Music will be emailed to you as PDF files about three weeks before the course, to enable you to practice your parts beforehand.
Course fee: £120 per player
Venue: The Birnam Institute, Perthshire
